If you’re anywhere near Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, May 17, you have to get to Pimlico Race Course. Not only will Pimlico host the second leg of horse racing’s 2025 Triple Crown, it’ll be the final time that the Preakness Stakes will be held at the historic facility. At some point in late June or early July, Pimlico will be demolished and redeveloped with an eye toward the Preakness returning there in 2027 (the Preakness will be held at Laurel Park in Laurel, Md., in 2026).

The Kentucky Derby is an event for the stars – both equine and human. Making it to the race is a dream of horse owners from all walks of life. Just as any NFL team needs a reliable quarterback if it wants to win a Super Bowl, so too do the connections of the best racehorses in training need the services of a top-notch jockey if they’re aiming to win a race like the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. Since it’s the richest race in North America and the ultimate prize at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships this Friday and Saturday at Del Mar, winning the Classic is the ultimate goal for any rider.

If you’re headed to the 2024 Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar Nov. 1-2, there’s a good chance you’re showing up with phone in hand. There’s no shame in it — you’re going to be at the World Championships of horse racing. If you don’t have the photos to prove it, were you really even there? As someone who has been lucky enough to visit Del Mar on several occasions, I thought I’d give you a little preview of some of the spots at the track where you can capture some awesome photos.
