2024 NFL Draft: Grading all 32 first-round picks

The 2024 NFL Draft was one for the history books. Six quarterbacks were drafted in the top 12 for the first time ever. A record 23 offensive players were taken in the first round, including the first 14 picks — another draft record. Eight of those offensive picks in the first round were linemen, tying the previous record set in 2008. Other records were set beyond the first round, as well.

Rock Falls 8, Dixon 7: At Rock Falls, the Rockets scored three runs in the seventh inning to top the Duchesses in Big Northern Conference play on Tuesday. Olivia Osborne went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Emma Skinner went 2 for 3, and Nicolette Udell tallied three RBIs, including a home run, for Rock Falls. Elly Brown and Kennedy Haenitsch each went 2 for 4 for Dixon. Brown had three RBIs and Haenitsch had one RBI. Brown and Abby Hicks both homered for the Duchesses.

The Green Bay Packers drafted 11 players in the 2024 NFL Draft. Three picks were offensive linemen. Three were safeties. Two were linebackers. Finding scheme fits for first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, upgrading talent and depth in the middle of the defense, and adding depth on the offensive line were clearly focal points in this draft for general manager Brian Gutekunst.

STERLING – Princeton freshman Avah Oertel had a game to remember Monday against Newman. In a 10-2 Three Rivers Conference East Division win over the rival Comets, she went 2 for 2 with a pair of two-run home runs and two walks. For Princeton head coach Jhavon Hayes, that type of performance comes as no surprise. “It’s what I expect from her. All I say is touch the ball and everything else will take care of itself,” Hayes said. “She did a good job at keeping a level head and swinging for a base hit.

Bryce Becker pitched six innings for the win, allowing one earned run on two hits and striking out 12 with four walks. Carter Merdian went 1 for 3 and scored the only run for Polo. Amboy 16, Orangeville/Aquin 0 (4 inn.): At Orangeville, the Clippers scored nine first-inning runs en route to a run-rule win.

Dixon 9, North Boone 2: At Dixon, the Dukes scored five third-inning runs and cruised to a Big Northern Conference win over the Vikings on Thursday. Bryce Feit went 3 for 3 with two walks and an RBI, including two doubles, Max Clark went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Aiden Wiseman went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Dixon (15-2, 11-0 BNC). Alex Harrison (3-0) earned the complete-game win, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and striking out seven with no walks.
