San Francisco is officially getting a professional men’s soccer team, after the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved a multi-million dollar agreement. The agreement will include Golden Gate FC to invest $10 million into Kezar Stadium, located in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. The recently approved legislation allows the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department to enter a 15-year permit with Golden City Football Club, which plans to play in the MLS Next Pro league.

Women’s sports have been taking off in San Francisco, with the Golden State Valkyries breaking audience records in the first season, and the city’s first women’s sports bar opening earlier this month in the Castro. Now, a major women’s sporting event is coming to the Bay Area later this year. The National Women’s Soccer League announced that the Championship will be held in San Jose at PayPal Park. The Championship game is scheduled for November 22, 2025, and tickets will go on sale in August.

San Francisco’s first women’s sports bar is officially opening its doors this week. Rikki’s is set to open this Wednesday, June 11, making the city’s first bar dedicated to women’s sports. The new bar is located on Market Street in the Castro, and will welcome sports fans from 3:30 to 10 pm starting on Wednesday, June 11. The bar is named after Rikki Streicher, who famously operated queer and lesbian bars in San Francisco between the 1960s and 1990s.
