THE ROLE OF DEHUMANIZATION Dehumanization is the denial of some aspect of humanity (Haslam et al., 2008), and it can imply less than human (i.e., animalistic), inhuman (i.e., mechanistic), or more than human (i.e., deistic). Elements consistent with each of these can be found embedded in both public stereotypes about first responders as well as within first responder culture.
