The Watertown City Council adopted the 2024 budgets and levy at their regular City Council meeting last month. The council adopted a general fund levy increase of 7.8 percent, which is nearly 5 percent below the preliminary levy average of 12.2 percent among all Carver County cities. The impact on the average valued home in Watertown will be about $80 for the year, or $6.67 per month. Council also approved the 2024 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and utility rates.

For the first time in 20 years, Central Public Schools invited the community to participate in their annual Project Christmas fundraiser, resulting in overwhelming success. The fundraiser, which helps families in need during the holiday season, started two decades ago. Initially, funds were raised through Student Council and National Honor Society, with students shopping for gifts requested by families in need.

For the first time ever, Central Public Schools will be launching its very own fishing team. The idea came about when a new student approached the middle and high schools’ dean of students, Joe Kley, asking about a fishing team after having been part of one at their previous school. Since then, conversations around starting a team have been ongoing since the fall, with several meetings taking place over the course of the last few months.
