We’re big fans of Fanny Bay Oyster Bar and Shellfish Market here at Vancouver Magazine—from fresh-as-heck mussels to bouncy shrimp, the downtown restaurant has long been known as a mecca for affordable and delicious seafood. And just on the heels of its third Michelin recommendation, Chef Alex Guido has joined the tide-to-table restaurant, bringing with him a new perspective.

While all summer long you can find us at Vancouver Magazine praising the city’s top patios and rooftops. But now that fall is officially here, we’re changing gears entirely: it’s fireplace season, ya’ll. Yes, it’s true: it’s time to take our eating and drinking into cozy mode, whether that’s date nights, quick drinks with pals or solo snacks. (Please note while writing I’m wearing my favourite toque which does of course have a massive pom-pom on top so you know how committed I am).

Earlier this year we broke the news about Chef Vish Mayekar’s newest endeavour, Elem. Finally the wait is over and Mayekar’s highly anticipated Mount Pleasant restaurant and cocktail lab is set to open its doors November 19. Though Chef Mayekar’s legendary cookery (he is a Top Chef-alum after all) is one main draw to Elem, Hassib Sarwari and Winnie Sun of beloved Afghan restaurant Zarak (which snagged silver in our 2024 Restaurant Awards) are also partners in the restaurant.

Here is the nomination and voting portal for the 2025 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards People’s Choice division. While our traditional, cuisine-focused Restaurant Awards are still judged by our expert panel of judges—the People’s Choice division is judged by you, the people. Nominations are now open—this is the write-in portion of the process. You’ll only be able to nominate once per category, so, make it count! Nominations will close on November 22, 2024—after that we will open up voting.
