Health New Zealand’s website says Paxlovid is recommended for people who are at higher risk of severe illness from Covid. Health New Zealand has admitted it didn’t consult with pharmacies before changing the funding for Covid antivirals - which has seen some pharmacies stop providing the service. As of July 1, pharmacists are now funded for a 15-minute consultation with patients to see if Paxlovid is appropriate for them, taking into account their current medication and other health conditions.

Disappointment at the consequences for a gynaecologist who left a woman with life-changing complications through the use of surgical mesh against her wishes. Diane Taylor says she gave specific instructions before her July 2017 surgery that she didn't want it used, after seeing stories in the news about harm. She says she found out three years later, after she'd already been dealing with pain and other issues, that mesh had been used in the operation.
