Android launchers have been a thing since the launch of Android in 2008. The unnamed launcher that shipped with the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream if you're on the other side of the water) wasn't much more than a mash-up of a PDA and an iPhone. A few years later, after Android phones established a foothold in the market, the golden age of the launcher began.

The past 12 months haven't been good for Firefox. In July, Firefox's owner, Mozilla, quietly snuck in tracking software it developed in collaboration with Meta to keep tabs on what ads you click. Then, earlier this year, it removed language from its website, stating that they don't sell user data and never will. To put it bluntly, Mozilla has lost a lot of trust.

It's safe to say that the sun is setting on the empire of cable TV. From a peak of around 100 million subscribers in the mid-2010s to around 68 million today, cable TV's decline has been precipitous. At the same time, the world's largest streaming provider, Netflix, has around 66 million US subscribers and over 300 million worldwide. Still, even as streaming's star has been ascendent, it's beginning to be a victim of its own success.

The world of e-reading was shocked by the news that Amazon is limiting users’ ability to download and transfer e-books to its Kindle devices. Although Amazon didn’t state why it’s doing this, the most likely answer is that preventing downloads bolsters the strength of its DRM. Amazon isn’t the only one that uses DRM on its books. Most e-book retailers use Adobe’s document DRM, Adobe Digital Experience Protection Technology, and you’ll find this DRM in the best e-readers.
