    Dooba dooba…dooba dooba…dooba dooba (more on that in a bit). Adult Swim and an assortment of 1990s precursors to it sure did leave a mark on an entire generation of filmmakers. Television in the ‘90s and early ‘00s was still a bit of a Wild West in terms of programming, particularly late at night. Networks and cable outlets were desperate to fill out 24/7 programming blocks.

    There was a term coined early on in the Nightmares Film Festival’s existence for those who were present from open to close on each day of the festivities: “The Sleepless”. While Nightmares Film Festival’s hours of operation have shifted since those earlier years back in 2016 and 2017, there’s still a (welcome) measure of sleeplessness at work for those who still attend the whole thing.

    Day Three of Nightmares Film Festival 2024 kicked off at Gateway Film Center with a screening of the wild comedy The Invisible Raptor. I sidestepped that screening in favor of attending the live recording of the Fright Club podcast, the annual panel on the ever-shifting world of film distribution, and a writing workshop with Bram Stoker Award-winning author Jeff Strand. Speaking to attendees who watched it however, it sounds like The Invisible Raptor was a hoot.
