Brantford playground reopens after ‘rubberized’ substance removed

The City of Brantford is looking for anyone who may have information after Silverbridge Park in Brantford was vandalized. According to the city, staff received a report indicating that a substance had been poured over the playground equipment. “Upon learning of the incident, city parks and recreation staff conducted an assessment of the playground where it was observed that a silicone-based product had been poured over the playground structures,” the city said in a news release.
Multiple animals die after fire in Arthur

Wellington North Fire Services (WNFS) say several pets have died from smoke inhalation following a fire at a building containing a restaurant and residential units. On Thursday around 3:30 p.m., WNFS responded to a structure fire in Arthur. The building consists of a restaurant on the main floor and apartments in the basement. Fire officials said upon arrival, there was light smoke visible coming out of the building.

Guelph police say six people ranging in age from 29 to 71 are facing dozens of drugs and weapons charges following the execution of search warrants at a home north of the city. Police said officers conducted the searches just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday – a month after officers began surveiling the individuals believing them to be involved in drug trafficking and property crimes.

Guelph police are looking for a man who allegedly asked a woman if he could masturbate in front of her, and upon being told no, continued to do so anyway. According to police, on Aug. 1 at 4:20 a.m., officers were called to an address near Willow Road and Alma Street North. Police said a woman told them she had arrived home a few minutes earlier and was siting outside her residence when a male approached and asked if he could masturbate in front of her.

Panthers even series with dominating win in London

The Kitchener Panthers shut out the London Majors on their home diamond after finishing up the remaining innings Wednesday night form their previous rained out game. On Tuesday, the two teams started – but couldn’t finish – game four of the semi-final playoff series. The game was called in the middle of the sixth inning with the Panthers up 2-0. A single base run, and two walks loaded the bases for the Panthers in the top of the seventh.
City of Cambridge opts for by-election to fill vacant Ward 1 seat

The City of Cambridge voted in favour of holding a by-election to fill the vacant Ward 1 council seat left after Donna Reid died earlier this month. On Tuesday, council weighed two available options – a by-election or an appointment method to fill the seat – and ultimately opted for the by-election approach. The by-election will be held through a combination of online voting and in-person voting with paper ballots.

The Kitchener Panthers are looking to stave off elimination tonight after dropping an early series lead to the London Majors. Ground has been broken at 97 Victoria Street in Kitchener for the development of 44 new transitional housing units with expanded community supports. “This is going to be a vibrant community.
