Upon hearing about the shootings of two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses over the weekend, House Speaker Javier Martínez jumped into action. He called the Legislative Council Service director and asked her to immediately delete lawmakers' home addresses from the official website of the state Legislature. Employees of the New Mexico State Investment Council saw more money in their most recent paychecks under a new pay plan the agency's governing body approved in March. But the raise for the agency's second in command, longtime Chief Investment Officer Robert "Vince" Smith, dwarfed the rest. Smith, already the agency's highest-paid employee, received a 39% increase, boosting his annual salary from $314,814 a year to $437,000 — or nearly $123,000 more annually.

A lawsuit that seeks to shed more light on a health coverage expansion program that would serve undocumented immigrants and other New Mexico residents who are otherwise considered uninsurable survived a legal challenge Tuesday. Second Judicial District Judge Daniel Ramczyk denied a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which alleges the board of the New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool violated the state's Open Meetings Act and Inspection of Public Records Act.
