Starting with Mitchell, the news of his drop down comes on the heels of his loss to Jean Silva back in April. Mitchell started out his professional career 15-0 prior to losing to eventual featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. Overall, Mitchell is 2-3 in his last five fights and he’s been finished in all three losses. Following this latest loss, he’s moving down to bantamweight for a fresh start. He’ll take on Said Nurmagomedov.

This past Saturday in the co-main event of UFC Atlanta, former world champion Rose Namajunas (14-7) was looking to get back on track. “Thug” Rose had a tough challenger in front of her in the motivated and surging Miranda Maverick (15-6). Entering the bout, I really thought that Namajunas had the clear skill advantage. Where Maverick could have success is with her grappling and utilizing her strength. Throughout the majority of the fight, it was Namajunas’ skill that really had her out in front.

This past Saturday night in the main event of UFC Atlanta, we saw a big time matchup in the welterweight division. Former champion and divisional great Kamaru Usman (21-4) made his return as he took on surging top contender Joaquin Buckley (21-7). Joaquin Buckley had all the momentum in the world entering this matchup. He was 6-0 at 170 pounds and he was coming off stoppages over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson and Colby Covington.

Former champion and divisional great Kamaru Usman (21-4) made his return as he took on surging top contender Joaquin Buckley (21-7). Buckley was the pretty decent betting favorite entering Saturday night. We hadn’t seen Usman fight at 170 in over two years while Joaquin Buckley has been dominating welterweight going 6-0 with four stoppages.

I've been thinking about this more and more since #UFC316... How incredible is it that we have two LEGIT superfights for the women right now. I think it would be absolutely perfect to close 2025 in Vegas with @KaylaH defending against Amanda Nunes AND Valentina - Weili
