A Statesville police officer crashed into another vehicle while responding to another crash Tuesday night, according to a release. Police in Woodfin, a town just north of Asheville, said a body was recovered from the French Broad River over the weekend. They said two people fishing on the bank of the river saw the body Sunday afternoon. Once recovered, officers found the person was wrapped in debris and covered in mud, officials said. The body has been sent to Raleigh for testing and an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office. Police did not say whether the body was a victim of Helene, foul play was involved or otherwise.
