Hotter temperatures and drought, characteristic of climate change, are significant drivers of tree mortality in many ecosystems worldwide (Allen et al 2015, Hammond et al 2022). Predicting drought-induced tree mortality at regional to landscape scales remains a challenge, in part because localized environmental conditions mediate how plants experience broader-scale heating and drought.
