People across Cheshire and Merseyside are being urged to use NHS 111 for all non-emergency healthcare needs ahead of industrial action by junior doctors. Unions have announced a full walkout of junior doctors from 7am on Saturday 24 February to 7am on Thursday 29 February 2024. Coming at a time when the NHS continues to experience severe seasonal pressures, significant service disruption is expected.

Did you know that in the North West 31% of children aged 0-5 have obvious signs of tooth decay? And in Liverpool it’s even higher at 37%. Oral health can affect the general health and wellbeing of the entire body and is really important. It also costs the NHS almost £43 million as tooth decay can lead to infections and tooth loss, with some children needing surgery. When a child is in hospital, their oral health can be neglected.

Along with the charity MediCinema and our own Alder Hey Children’s Charity, we have announced a new partnership to create a state-of-the-art cinema inside our children’s hospital. The specially designed in-hospital cinema, due to open in 2024, will be funded exclusively by Alder Hey Children’s Charity and MediCinema and will be the only one in a solely paediatric hospital in the UK and the first in the North West.

From Monday 16th October 2023, the City Walk-in Centre at the BEAT will be relocated to the Linda McCartney Centre, at the Royal Liverpool site, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. All operational activity such as the Walk-in Centre opening times, staffing and service delivery will remain the same (8am to 8pm, 7 days a week).
