CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Leinenkugel family is trying to save the Chippewa Falls brewery, which is set to close this Friday. In a statement, Jake and Dick Leinenkugel say they submitted a proposal to Molson Coors to enter into a non-disclosure agreement, with the intent to acquire the brewery and maintain its operations.
Mobile home park in Altoona receives FEMA grant money

ALTOONA, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A mobile home park in Eau Claire County is receiving grant money from FEMA to help build a safe room. The $70,000 grant is going to the Hillcrest Estates mobile home park neighborhood in Altoona. An administrator for FEMA says this project will give local residents a place to go when severe weather threatens the Altoona area. This grant is the first of three increments of a $1.2 million investment to build a safe space for residents in and around the mobile home park.
St. Croix County Sherrf addressing letter from Eau Claire sent to state attorney general

(WLAX/WUEX) – The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office is addressing a letter from Eau Claire sent to the state attorney general. His agency is one of several listed by Eau Claire leadership accused of dropping off transient individuals without the city’s knowledge of consent. It is an ongoing issue. The city is asking attorney general Josh Kaul to address the problem.
Man who died in construction accident identified as La Crosse man

(WLAX/WUEX) – A construction worker who died after a fall at a Deforest site has been identified as a La Crosse man, 23-year-old Robert Snodgrass. He was pronounced dead last Thursday. According to Deforest police, officers responded to a Kwik Trip distribution center for a worker who had fallen off of a roof. Police and EMS attempted to save his life, but were unsuccessful. (WLAX/WUEX) – A person injured in an Eau Claire County Crash nearly a week ago has died. The Sherriff’s Office says it was notified yesterday 69-year-old George King of Fall Creek has died. King was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his wife last Friday around 11am. Their vehicle was driving on Highway 27 in Ludington when another vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into them.
Chippewa Valley Regional Airport sees decline in travelers in 2024

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – New data shows more than 44,000 passengers traveled through the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport in 2024, which is 13% lower than the year before. Staff with the airport says the decline is likely due to the uncertainty of airline contracts and fewer flights offered than the year before. This year, the airport now provides daily flights to and from Chicago, something staff believes will create more traffic for 2025.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Travelers in the Coulee Region will have more options to get to travel destinations soon. Currently, the La Crosse Regional Airport has around three flights per day with American Airlines, but these destinations have been very limited. “We do have a large amount of passengers that do go to Minneapolis. We lost our Delta service. That’s been a big blow to us the last year and a half. We’re still working to recover from that,” Jeff Tripp said.
Eau Claire seeking legal opinion of Attorney General Josh Kaul

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The city of Eau Claire is seeking the legal opinion of Attorney General Josh Kaul. In a six page letter to the AG, the Eau Claire city and county attorneys claim law enforcement officers from other counties are making custodial transports outside of their jurisdictions. The letter cites incidents form the St. Croix County Sherriff’s Office, Menomonie and Durand Police Departments, where homeless individuals were dropped off in the city of Eau Claire.
