Reed Hastings as CEO at Netflix is what he calls, "farming for dissent." Disagreements with the boss, he says, allow new ideas and strategies for growth to come to a leader's attention, and a leader's efforts to draw out dissent help people feel more comfortable about doing it. While I understand the concept, the language can sound negative: dissent, disagreement, discord; acting against another person. I prefer to clarify what makes dissent so positive.

A CEO on our board came to a company event last year and commented with surprise over the range of ages she saw on our team. Nothing negative, she said, but given the industry reputation, she was shocked to see so many older people at a tech company. The words are harsh, even to look at. I could never imagine saying them to a member of my team. Yet, when I set out to write this article and asked everyone in my company to talk about workplace trauma, these were among their experiences: CEOs calling people stupid in a meeting; managers blowing up over small mistakes or lying about a promotion; feeling stressed and being yelled at every single day. Fifteen percent of my employees were willing to share their stories. Some were hard to believe.

JumpCloud has announced the acquisition of asset management startup Resmo in a move the firm said will help it meet modern SaaS management, IT security, and asset management needs. Headquartered in Dover, Delaware, Resmo specializes in advanced IT, cloud, and SaaS asset security management for cloud native IT and SecOps teams. The firm was co-founded by CEO Serhat Can and CTO Mustafa Akin in 2021 and currently has a listed staff base of 17 employees.
