    For the final comic commissioned by Greenpeace, I pitched an idea of updating the New Zealand Coat of Arms to better reflect the priorities of our government if the Regulatory Standards Bill were to pass, and to be honest, for trying to force it through in the first place. The Coat of Arms is intended to represent our country as a bicultural nation and our relationship between the Crown and Māori, in addition to our agricultural exports.

    It’s been a hectic three days for me. I returned from a two-month tour on Sunday and have had to dive right into some exciting, but time-sensitive work, as Greenpeace commissioned me to make a few comics on the Regulatory Standards Bill. I sent them a few pitches for ideas, and after a bit of back-and-forth, I finished three different comics on topics surrounding why this bill is bad. I’ll share them on here and my socials as they slowly get released.

    So, rents are falling in Wellington. Landlords are struggling to fill houses at their current prices, and a lack of demand is resulting in prices falling, from what I hear from friends who rent in the city. I’m sure National will tout this as a win for them, but the reason they are falling is that people are leaving the city in droves due to the cuts made by this government and leaving to head overseas for better opportunities and get better compensation for their skill set.

    It would be disingenuous to say that I’m shocked by the 2025 budget announcement. For the past two and a half years, we have seen this government hack and slash the public sector, purposefully target low-income workers, and actively start a campaign to privatise our healthcare and education systems while simultaneously pleasing their donors and justifying a landlord tax during a cost-of-living crisis.
