A death investigation is underway after a Covington man discovered a body in a lake Monday afternoon. The Newton County Sheriff's Office responded to a drowning call on Gibson Way after a man out for a walk stumbled upon an unidentified woman floating in a nearby lake. When deputies arrived on the scene of Gibson Way they were unable to access the lake and, as a result, moved the investigation to an alternative access point near Georgia Highway 212.

The 27-year-old victim was alert, conscious and breathing when officers arrived on the scene. ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are investigating after a security guard was shot Tuesday evening trying to intervene in an attempted auto theft. According to police, it happened in the 3400 block of Landrum Drive. The call came in after 7:30 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they said they discovered a security guard had been shot in the leg.
