SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — On Thursday, Border Czar Tom Homan said more than 14-thousand undocumented immigrants have been arrested since President Trump started his second term. Homan told ABC News in an interview Thursday that while the majority of the arrests involve criminals, thousands of other migrants without criminal records have also been arrested.
Man who killed Cathedral Highschool teacher sentenced to life in prison

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The man convicted of killing a Cathedral Catholic High School teacher will spend the rest of his life in prison. On Wednesday afternoon, a judge sentenced Jesse Alvarez to life in prison, without the possibility of parole, for the murder of Mario Fierro. Alvarez shot and killed Fierro outside his North Park home in 2021, after finding out that Fierro was engaged to his ex-girlfriend, Amy Gembara.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — American Eagle Flight 5342, coming from Wichita, Kansas, crashed with a Black Hawk military helicopter Wednesday night as it was approaching Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia. Washington, D.C., Fire Chief John A. Donnelly Sr. said in a Thursday morning news conference that officials do not believe anyone survived.
Colombian President caves to Trump's terms; allows two deportation flights to land

(KGTV) — On Sunday, President Trump threatened massive tariffs and sanctions on Colombia after its president, Gustavos Petros, refused two repatriation flights carrying undocumented immigrants back into the country. Petros said he was rejecting the flights because the undocumented immigrants on board were not being treated humanely. However, by Sunday evening, Petros had reportedly agreed to all of Trump's terms, which included allowing those flights into Colombia.
Suspected smuggler's boat capsizes in Ocean Beach

OCEAN BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — A boat was found capsized in Ocean Beach Saturday morning, prompting San Diego Lifeguards to rescue dozens of migrants from the water. A San Diego lieutenant said the boat is suspected to have been smuggling between 20-30 people in. Ed Baier, a freelance photojournalist, caught with his camera the moments lifeguards saved migrants from the ocean but said surfers and locals also played a huge role in helping the migrants, who were visibly traumatized.
Northern California first responders help fight San Diego's Border 2 Fire

OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — According to CAL FIRE's Incidents page, the Border 2 Fire has burned 6,273 acres as of Friday evening and was at 10 percent containment. ABC 10News was on the scene just before 4 a.m. Friday, when the Border 2 Fire had only burned 1,000 acres at that point. A big portion of the wildfire started in the lower region of Otay Lakes, but as ABC 10News on-scene witnessed, fire crews had that area out near Otay Lake Rd contained within less than a few hours.

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) — After two floods in two years, a National City resident finally received long-awaited news about a grate she'd been asking city officials to remove. During the Jan. 22, 2024, rainstorm, Sherry Gogue — who lives on East 8th Street — was flooded along with her neighbors because the culvert that circles around her home spilled out with rushing waters in a matter of minutes.
Truck slams into garage attached to El Cajon home, displacing at least six residents

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A truck slammed into an El Cajon home on the corner of Prescott Ave and Chase Ave Sunday afternoon. The garage attached to the house, as well as the fencing along Chase Ave, were taken out by the truck. The Heartland Fire and Rescue Department said six to eight people were inside the home at the time of the crash around 1:15 p.m., and only the driver of the truck was injured and transported to a local hospital.
