    Yankees ace right-hander Gerrit Cole will require Tommy John surgery for his ailing right elbow, which will keep him out for the entire 2025 season and possibly into the 2026 campaign. The Yankees announced that Cole was seen in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday and is now scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. The loss of Cole is a seismic blow for the Yanks, who are already without Luis Gil until at least June due to a serious lat injury.

    The Mets have agreed to terms with outfielder/designated hitter Jesse Winker, according to league sources. That deal, which is pending physical, signifies that the team has pivoted to an offseason plan that likely does not involve a deal to bring back Pete Alonso. According to league sources, the Mets now expect that Alonso will sign elsewhere. The team genuinely likes Alonso as a person and player, and hoped to come to an agreement. But the sides have not come close on years and dollars.

    The Mets have added another potential bullpen option, claiming right-handed reliever Austin Warren off waivers from the Giants. Warren, who turns 29 in February, had a 1.69 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 10.2 innings (six appearances) for the Giants last season. He debuted for the Angels in 2021 and spent three seasons in Los Angeles, posting a 3.55 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 38.0 innings.
