PITTSBURGH — Though their roles are now different, Mike Burrows and Braxton Ashcraft came up through the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor-league system on a similar track. Both players were selected by the Pirates in the 2018 draft. Ashcraft had his name called in the second round from Robinson High School in Texas. Nine rounds later, the Pirates took Burrows out of Waterford High School in Connecticut. Both players had to overcome Tommy John surgery — Ashcraft in 2021 and Burrows in 2023.

PITTSBURGH — Nick Gonzales returned to the field for the Pittsburgh Pirates in their 3-0 loss to the Houston Astros Tuesday night. It was his first game since exiting early on Opening Day against the Marlins in Miami. Gonzales hobbled around the bases at loanDepot Park after a home run in his third at-bat of the season on March 27. The 26-year-old was replaced in the field in the season opener and was placed on the injured list the following day with a non-displaced ankle fracture.

RT @pghbaseballnow: Pirates Sparked By Two Homers, Blank Mets to Avoid Sweep https://t.co/hp8wqdSK9Q

Alexander Canario (.210) has a higher batting average this season than Bryan Reynolds (.194). Just a wild stat to type.

RT @Pirates: Due to inclement weather the start of tonight’s game in New York has been delayed and will begin at approximately 7:25 PM.
