    DC Comics boasts an incredible library of characters and stories, and it’s exciting to think about what’s on the horizon. While we’re eager to see new iterations of iconic characters like The Flash, Wonder Woman and Batman, DC also has an enormous cast of more obscure heroes deserving of the spotlight. Gunn is no stranger to adapting lesser known characters, and his love for the material is a positive sign for DC’s cinematic future.

    Over 200 people, answering the call by Intifada PDX to support a free Palestine, marched through the Central Eastside of Portland, Oregon, on Dec. 11. The march ended on the Burnside Bridge where the protesters blocked off and shut down the bridge with cars, bikes, bodies and flags for upwards of 30 minutes. Workers at Peace Tree Montessori School in North Portland had a strong contingent.

    In the first weeks of November 2023, an international delegation of activists, lawyers, and journalists traveled to Cairo. They were joined by this writer and Sara Flounders of Workers World Party. This delegation was initiated by the prominent Palestinian author Susan Abulhawa and Suzanne Adaley, the president of the National Lawyers Guild.

    Ever since Marvel’s The Avengers hit theaters back in 2012, Hollywood has wholly embraced the idea of shared cinematic universes. The MCU’s hot streak has taken the blockbuster business by storm. Not every attempt by other studios has been a grand slam, but it’s evident that audiences are willing to invest themselves in long form cinematic storytelling. Marvel, Star Wars and DC might be the top dogs, but there are other rich worlds waiting to be unearthed and brought to life on the big screen.

    Managua, NicaraguaO’Brien, from Portland, Ore., and Mairead Skehan-Gillis from Boston represented Workers World Party as part of a solidarity delegation to Nicaragua organized by the Jubilee House Community. They joined other delegations in celebrating the 44th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.
