El Consejo de Consumidores de Hong Kong publicó el 16 de octubre el último número de su revista mensual “Choice”, que incluye un artículo sobre chocolates. En él se indica que en las 29 muestras de chocolate se detectó cadmio, metal pesado, y que una de ellas superaba incluso el límite reglamentario de la Unión Europea. Varias de las muestras también contenían plomo, cadmio y trazas de hidrocarburos aromáticos policíclicos (HAP), que pueden provocar cáncer.

The 33rd Hong Kong Book Fair opens on July 19 for seven days at the Wanchai Convention and Exhibition Center. Books dealing with social movements’ politics are hardly to be found. Publishers banned from participating in last year’s fair remain conspicuous absentees this time. Some mainland visitors lamented the decline of freedoms in Hong Kong.

A National Security Law Research Report was released in Taiwan on June 30, a day before the anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover to China. The report was conducted by an anonymous Hong Kong research team. Three review mechanisms were used as an analytical framework to study five areas in Hong Kong which have been impacted upon. The team also hopes to improve existing awareness and support mechanisms which are already present in Hong Kong’s civil society.

On July 7, The Hong Kong Journalists Association (HKJA) released the 2022 Press Freedom Index, showing that the public and journalists’ ratings of Hong Kong press freedom hit a new low.The public’s rating stood at 41.4 out of 100.

On June 28, Lord Patten of Barnes, the last Governor of Hong Kong, criticized CCP’s “comprehensively vengeful restrictions” on freedom of the press, civil society, and democracy in Hong Kong in his speech at a reception in Parliament to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong and the third year since passing the Hong Kong National Security Law.
