    Officers from the Joint Counter-Terrorism Taskforce raided at least three homes in Melbourne's north today in relation to a fire at a synagogue last year. In December, a fire tore through the Adass Israel synagogue of Melbourne, razing the building. A representative of the synagogue's board says it is encouraging that the investigation is progressing, and that the community hoped to start rebuilding later this year.

    A Victorian teenager has been charged with terror offences, with his father saying he has not seen the charges against his son. Last Thursday, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) raided the home of the 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons. Counter-terrorism officers subsequently charged him with four terror offences, including using a carriage service to make threats to kill, threatening force or violence against groups, and possessing and using violent extremist material.

    A Melbourne man wrongfully convicted of the notorious murders of two police officers — for which he last month secured a multi-million-dollar settlement — is now being sued over his role in an armed robbery. Jason Roberts, who spent 22 years behind bars for gunning down police officers Gary Silk and Rodney Miller in 1998, was acquitted of their murders in 2022.

Their lawyer has described the alleged assaults as "completely unprovoked". Victoria Police has declined to comment and is yet to file its defence to the actions in the County Court of Victoria.
