This was a doozy of a weeknight show in Manhattan and we were gifted with over an hour of Boris and their amplified wall of sound. It’s crazy to think that it has been since 2001 since we haven’t gotten at least one yearly release from Boris in some form and this year’s Hello There collab (with Coaltar of the Deepers), live performance of Fade, and 2 years later, and Noise. All these releases dropping this year continue to prove how prolific of a band they are.

It’s been a couple of weeks since Metal Injection Fest 2024 melted faces in Brooklyn NY. It was a doozy of a weekend with the likes of Converge, Jinjer, the first live appearance on the East Coast by 3 Inches of Blood in 10 years, God Forbid, Cave In, Gost, Revocation, and a plethora of others. The first day was definitely front-loaded, I’d never seen Jinjer or Hanabie before and I’m grateful for the experience.

The fourth installment of Desert Fest NYC has now come and gone. I want to start by thanking the crew, they ran a three-day fest with everything starting on time and limited technical difficulties throughout the fest, they worked their backsides off and it showed. Thursday The weakest point this year was the Thursday pre-fest show, I’m in my 40’s and I felt like the youngest person there. I had much higher expectations than the product I was provided with.

Escuela Grind have just released the first single from their upcoming second album – the follow-up to 2022 debut Memory Theater. The rising grindcore gang – vocalist Katerina Economou, guitarist Kris Morash, bassist Justin Altamirano and drummer Jesse Fuentes – tease that new tune Turbulence is a “departure” from what we’ve come to expect in the past, with the band having been inspired to create some more “catchy” moments in their music while on tour.
