June 24, 2024 Updated July 02, 2024 For Iranian dissidents, the consequences of speaking out can be deadly. “Lethal Dissent,” a new nine-part podcast from The World, GBH’s and PRX’s global news radio program, investigates the price and peril that Iranian dissidents face for speaking against their government and follows the secret operatives who seek to silence them. The series is a collaboration with “On Spec,” a documentary podcast based in Istanbul, Turkey.

“Thrilling and extraordinary.” That’s how Lidia Bastianich, star of GBH programs Lidia’s Kitchen and Lidia Celebrates America, describes her delight at being named a 2024 National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Lifetime Achievement Honoree. “I’m thrilled — I had thought Emmys were given for acting and performance.” She says she’ll be proud to “carry the flag” for cooking programs alongside two soap opera actors also receiving the award.

Two of Greek chef Maria Loi’s favorite things sit on her bedside table: a bottle of olive oil and a stack of books. Both are essential lifelines, and both have changed the course of her life. Loi, who founded the critically acclaimed Manhattan restaurant, Loi Estiatorio, launched the second season of The Life with Loi this spring, produced with GBH, with new episodes broadcast on Saturdays in May at noon on GBH 2 and available to stream anytime on the PBS App.
