It’s challenging. I’ll bet if you asked the others on the panel, you’d get slightly different answers. The beauty is that we have some great options. We’ve got some awesome tools. Our other specialties are probably a bit jealous of this crazy advancement that we’ve have. It’s a good problem to have.

From the trials, it was apparent that those with high T2 [type 2] inflammatory markers tended to do better, even though the requirement is an eosinophil count of 150 cells per mm3 peripherally or greater. Dr Siri, can you deep dive into this area to guide us through some of the papers and results that made this come about? Dareen D.

Raffi Tachdjian, MD, MPH, FAAAAI, FACAAI: I don’t know if you all share the same sentiment or experience, but a lot of my colleagues in different specialties look at ours in allergy and immunology and are envious of the progress we’ve made in the last 20 years, since 2003. One of the treatments discussed was dupilumab, which is the only FDA-approved dual-interleukin inhibitor for severe asthma.
