TEMAGAMI - Property owners are being encouraged to become familiar with the guidelines provided by the FireSmart program. Temagami council received a presentation from Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) fire advisor Ken Cox recently outlining the benefits of the program. Temagami Fire Chief Jim Sanderson said in a later interview that the FireSmart guidelines are important everywhere, and not just in Temagami.

CHAMBERLAIN TOWNSHIP - Plans for a community garden are taking form in Chamberlain Township. A cooperative initiative is being put in place this year, allowing participants to actively work in the garden, growing and being able to enjoy the plants that emerge. There are also plans for community events where there will be opportunities to taste and enjoy the produce that is being grown in the garden.

ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP - "It was one of the nastiest winters" airport manager James Smith said he has seen since he has been at the airport. He was speaking at the May 15 meeting of the Earlton-Timiskaming Regional Airport Authority in Armstrong Township. Ice and heavy snow created challenges throughout the winter months, he related, and impacted flight numbers at the airport.
