A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the serious assault of another man in the Rosie Hackett Bridge area of Eden Quay on MondayThe victim was transported to the Mater Misericordiae Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, after gardaí arrived at the scene around 4.30pm. A garda spokesperson said the scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

Three men were hospitalised following an alleged assault on Devonshire Street in Cork City just after midnight on Friday. The men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were taken to Mercy University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Gardaí said they were brought to hospital as a precaution. A technical examination of the scene was carried out earlier today, and the street has since reopened. Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) is to begin targeted sea fishing inspections to ensure measures are in place to keep crews safe. There were 24 deaths in the fishing sector between 2015 and 2024 which, based on the numbers employed, makes sea fishing the most dangerous sector in which to work in Ireland. From next Tuesday HSA inspectors will evaluate vessels at major fishing ports, including Killybegs, Castletownbere, Dunmore East, and Kilmore Quay.

Fuel prices in Ireland have experienced a decline this May following a stable period, according to the latest AA Ireland Fuel Price Survey. Petrol prices have decreased by 4c per litre, while diesel has seen a significant drop of 9c per litre.
