A Medieval brooch pin dating from the 8th century is the latest treasure to be uncovered during construction works on the Adare bypass in Limerick. The brooch, made of cast bronze, is just 12cm in length, and features blue glass settings as well as cast animal and abstract ornaments. It was unearthed by archaeologists during a dig at Ardshanbally as part of excavation works for the ongoing construction before Christmas.

March 2025 has been officially recorded as the warmest March in Ireland since 2012, Met Éireann has confirmed, with an average national temperature of 8.55C. This is 1.42C above the 1991-2020 long-term average (LTA) and 2.09C above the 1961-1990 LTA. The month ranks as the eighth warmest March on record since 1900. The warmest March remains that of 1957, which saw an average temperature of 9.85C, while the coldest occurred in 1919, with a chilling 3.90C.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the serious assault of a man in his 60s at a property on Basin St, Dublin 8. Gardaí are investigating the incident which occurred on Tuesday. Gardaí and emergency services responded to a report of an unresponsive man at approximately 12pm that day. The victim was later removed from the scene by ambulance. He is currently receiving treatment at Beaumont Hospital where his condition is understood to be serious.

Met Éireann says Friday will see some of the warmest weather this week, with "very mild or warm and humid" conditions expected and temperatures of 14C to 19C.
