When Colt Seavers leaves his career as an acclaimed Hollywood stuntman he also turns his back on his partner Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). He’s soon persuaded by a producer (Hannah Waddingham) to assist on Jody’s first feature film so he can discover the whereabouts of star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor Johnson) who Colt used to perform stunts for. Shenanigans inevitably ensue. David Leitch’s reboot of the classic 80s TV show is a resounding success.

Dev Patel’s directorial debut is certainly a film of two halves. A clear labour of love - he directs, acts, writes, produces - there’s a lot to unpick here and not all of it is good. The biggest issue with Monkey Man is that it suffers from huge empty lulls where very little happens. While it’s a standard revenge story there’s lots of political posturing as well. Patel clearly has a lot to say about the political issues shown in Monkey Man but they don’t always feel impactful.
