    Baseball is said to be a game of inches. The same holds true for its sibling, softball. Exhibit A, Friday’s District Three Class 5A championship game. With two runners on and nobody out in the bottom of the first inning, Solanco’s Sara DeFrancesco put a charge into a ball, sending it to dead center field. As the ball sailed toward the fence at Millersville’s Seaber Softball Stadium one could see another trademark, high-scoring victory in the making for the Golden Mules.

    Kennard-Dale broke open a tightly played contest by scoring a run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to defeat Northern Lebanon 4-1 in the District Three Class 4A softball championship, Tuesday afternoon at Millersville’s Seaber Softball Stadium. The championship was the third in six appearances for the Rams (20-2), who won a 2A title in 1990 and one in 4A in 2017. They fell in last year’s 4A final to Trinity.

But there was not a spot of rust to be found on the No. 2-seeded Eagles on Saturday morning as Sydney May and Lauren Richardson threw a combined no-hitter, defeating Hempfield 7-0 in a District Three Class 6A quarterfinal.
