A wet week into the Lancaster-Lebanon League softball season, and what do we know? We know Elco has taken the high ground in Section Three and the District Three 4A power rankings. The Raiders are the No. 1 team in 4A, 2-0 in the L-L and 11-0 overall with seven victories by at least 10 runs. They host Northern Lebanon (3-0, 7-1) on Wednesday in the first of at least two clashes between the two. The Vikings are No. 2 in the 4A rankings.

Just as a leaky faucet can lead to a flooded basement, the smallest of softball plays can bring on a big inning. Octorara turned a dropped infield popup into a six-run inning and held on to defeat Lancaster Catholic 7-6 Wednesday afternoon in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Four game at Stauffer Park. The Braves (3-0 L-L, 6-4) batted around plus-one in the fourth inning, scoring six times to wipe out a 4-0 deficit.

FREDERICKSBURG — Did Lynsie Mauser throw a two-hit shutout or two one-hit shutouts six days apart? Mauser, Northern Lebanon’s senior ace, battled near gale force winds as well as Donegal on Tuesday afternoon as the Vikings completed a 4-0 victory over the Indians in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Three opener that was suspended last Wednesday by lightning and storms that passed through the Jonestown-Fredericksburg metroplex.
