Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Rhett Lowder left during the second inning of his rehab start Thursday for the Louisville Bats with an undisclosed injury. Lowder, the seventh overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, walked off the field with a trainer after throwing just 12 pitches against the Gwinnett Stripers. Lowder was making his second rehab start for the Bats. He allowed four earned runs in 1/3 inning in his previous start.

The Miami Dolphins announced Thursday the signing of quarterback Brett Gabbert, who played the past six seasons for the Miami University RedHawks. Last season, Gabbert passed for 2,921 yards and 21 touchdowns in 14 games while leading the RedHawks to the Mid-American Conference title game, which they lost to the Ohio Bobcats. Gabbert led MU to a 43-17 win against Colorado State in the Arizona Bowl.

Free-agent defensive tackle Montravius Adams, released April 28 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, is visiting the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a report via Twitter/X from ESPN's Adam Schefter. Adams, 29, started 21 of the 46 games in which he played for the Steelers over the past four seasons. He had two tackles in Pittsburgh's 19-17 loss to the Bengals January 4. Adams was a third-round pick of the Packers in the 2017 NFL draft.
