Photo by Chris Coduto/Getty Images The Portland Trail Blazers carried a 36-46 record through the 2024-25 NBA regular season. It was good enough to make them the “best of the rest”, just south of the NBA Play-In Tournament line, north of nearly all the other teams who will participate in this year’s draft lottery. Inherent in a middle-ground standing are positives mixed with negatives, grey areas open to interpretation. Few things stand out without caveats, but few are hopeless.

Photo by Soobum Im/Getty Images The Portland Trail Blazers just completed their 2024-25 season with a 36-46 record. That was better than they were predicted to do when pundits and oddsmakers forecasted the campaign last summer. But what, specifically, did the Blazers do better and what work remains to be done? Over the next couple of days, we’re going to review the season with an eye towards answering those questions. This might put the year in perspective.

Jaime Valdez-Imagn Images Anyone with an eye for discounts will be familiar with the gray-market, knock-off industry, found in import stalls and flea markets everywhere. For the low, low price of $35 you can find a hand-crafted bag from Screwy Vuitton or a set of heels from Skeeves St. Laurent. A similar principle held on Sunday afternoon as the Portland Trail Blazers met the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 82 of the two teams’ respective seasons.

Photo by Soobum Im/Getty Images The news broke today that the Portland Trail Blazers have negotiated a multi-year extension with Head Coach Chauncey Billups. Let’s be clear: this is not a by-the-numbers move. Over four years with the franchise, Billups has accumulated a 116-211 record. That’s a winning percentage of just 33.5%. Only four coaches in the history of the NBA have coached 300 or more games with that low of a percentage: Ron Rothstein, Tim Floyd, Sidney Lowe, and Billups.

Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images The Portland Trail Blazers lost to the Golden State Warriors 103-86 on Friday evening. As we announced earlier in the week, we asked Blazer’s Edge Readers to take a stab at recapping this game, figuring that our staff doing 81 of 82 games was enough for a season. Several people volunteered. We’re going to try to cycle them in for various things as the months progress. But we chose two recappers to give their takes about the Warriors game tonight.
