Harvard University wants its funding unfrozen by September, they’ve told a federal court — or it may be too late. In a Monday filing, Harvard — which has experienced billions in funding freezes and grant terminations from the Trump administration — asked the court for summary judgment in their April 21 lawsuit by Sept. 3. They argue in the filing that the canceled funds began a “120-day clock” to submit reports and “liquidate all financial obligations” related to the federal funding.

The Trump administration began a 30-day countdown for Harvard to respond on Thursday as it filed a formal notice with federal courts to withdraw the prestigious institution from the federal program allowing the school to accept foreign students. The court filing included a letter sent to Harvard Director of Immigration Services Maureen Martin on Wednesday.

The U.S. Census released new numbers this month that show clear shifts in population for Massachusetts. And the news isn’t great for Western Mass. or for Cape Cod. From July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024, 282 of the 351 Massachusetts cities and towns saw increases to their populations. Seven communities remained exactly the same and 62 saw declines. But the communities were not evenly distributed across the state. Nearly all of Cape Cod and Western Massachusetts saw declines.
