It seemed like whatever defense Wheaton North coach Dave Brackmann tried to employ on Geneva center Hudson Kirby it didn't work. The Division II Wisconsin-Parkside recruit ripped his way through the Falcons’ defense for 28 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists. Kirby's effort helped propel the Vikings to a 64-55 win over the visiting Falcons in DuKane Conference action in Geneva Friday night. Geneva's senior center also connected on 10-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Crystal Lake South coach Matt LePage could finally breathe a little easier. LePage's Gators fought off every Burlington Central run and eventually pulled out a 66-61 Fox Valley Conference win in Burlington Friday night. "Burlington Central is a very good team and they play hard," said LePage. "They are aggressive and are very physical. This was a very good win on the road against a good team. We had great effort and have great chemistry.

Here’s a look at what to expect this winter for the area’s boys swimming teams. BENET ACADEMY The Redwings were fourth in the Metro Catholic Aquatic Conference last season, seventh in the sectionals and 46th at state. Coach Nelly Musso will depend on seniors Aiden Hulett, Harlan Apple and Keegan Glynn, and juniors Sam Larson and Ben Dewart. Newcomers include sophomore Alex Gastolek and freshman Aiden Erickson.

Here’s a look at what to expect this winter for the area’s boys swimming teams. BARRINGTON The Broncos’ top swimmer returning is senior Notre Dame recruit Lucas Bucaro. Bucaro placed seventh at the state meet in the 200 individual medley and 10th in the 500 freestyle. Bucaro's efforts propelled the Broncos to a second straight Mid-Suburban League title, a third-place finish at the talent-laden Stevenson sectional and a 10th-place finish in the state.

Waubonsie Valley coach Andrew Schweitzer certainly has lofty goals for his 2024-2025 team. "Our motto is there are no limits," said Schweitzer. “We can go wherever we want to go." With high expectations, the Warriors led by 3-year varsity starter senior Tyreek Coleman, cruised past Marmion Academy 59-28 in Friday night's 49th annual Ken Peddy Windmill Classic game hosted by Batavia. "I am a senior and being the point guard as a sophomore I have been a leader for 3 years," said Coleman.
