As Windsor Spitfires’ general manager Bill Bowler gets started on his 2025 offseason plans, one of the biggest areas he will have to figure out is his overage situation. If the club is going to be an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) contender again in 2025-26, this has to be as strong of a group as he can build. Every team in the OHL is currently allowed to have three overage (20-year-old) players dress per game. For the 2025-26 season, that means anyone born in 2005.

As the Windsor Spitfires say goodbye to the 2024-25 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season, the summer months are peaking over the horizon. It has the potential to be a busy offseason for the organization, one that could set them up for a monster 2025-26 campaign. When the Spitfires finished last in the Western Conference in 2023-24, expectations for this season were modest. Tuesday was an emotional, bittersweet end to the season for the Windsor Spitfires. In a grueling Game 7 of their Ontario Hockey League (OHL) second-round series, the Spitfires fell 2-1 in overtime to the Kitchener Rangers, showing heartbreak with pride and optimism towards the future. Nothing about this series, or these playoffs, has been easy for the Western Conference’s second-seeded Spitfires.

The Windsor Spitfires are trying to be competitive every season. For general manager Bill Bowler, that means drafting players who are not only talented on the ice but quality humans off of it. The trend looked to continue this weekend at the 2025 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection. Since Bowler took over for former GM Warren Rychel in 2019, he likes players who show a high compete level on the ice and have solid character and leadership qualities off of it.

The Windsor Spitfires are finding their groove at the right time. On Thursday night, they opened their 2024-25 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) second-round series with an impressive home win over a very-game Kitchener Rangers team. After a bruising first-round series against the seventh-seeded Soo Greyhounds, the second-seeded Spitfires knew they would be in tough against a strong defensive third-seeded Rangers.

1. Heights and I don't get along unless there's a serious guardrail involved. #norollercasters 2. Long ago, I tried nachos in almost every arena. It was tough to beat the Windsor Arena, no denial. The WFCU Centre nachos (which I still have on occasion) are outstanding! #OHL

The CHL/NCAA tide is turning, the Ice Dogs remain a mess, and he's tried hot dogs in every #OHL rink and tells you where to find the best. You know you wanna know. #OHLPodcast @DanMeagher Listen: https://t.co/zmLLA0513j Watch: https://t.co/COm1oKwUg2

It's great that they're finally eligible but... that reasoning leaves a bit of an awkward taste.
