Lakewood resident Dave Lange has returned home with gold medals in all five of his events from the New Hampshire Senior Games swimming competition held at Colby-Sawyer College in New London. His victories in the 75-to-79-year-old age group 50-, 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle events qualify him for the 2025 National Senior Games next summer in Des Moines, Iowa.

Regardless of what happens in the next few weeks, Ohio voters will have no say on the Republican nominee for U.S. president in this year’s election. None! That’s even if former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s name remains on the state’s March 19 primary ballot. The preponderance of national media assessments declared former President Donald J. Trump the victor as Iowa caucus voters cast their ballots on Jan. 15. That’s right, not even an open primary.

Democracy isn’t dead in Ohio after all, not even in die-hard Republican Geauga County. Thanks to 57% of the state’s voters in the anti-democratic and demonstrably illegal special election on Aug. 8, democracy remains on life support. That substantial majority prevented the autocrats in Columbus from undermining any realistic chance for voters to approve constitutional amendments in Ohio, at least for now.
