After hundreds of miles on a bus and five weeks of nothing but practice and road games, the Patagonia High basketball teams are settling in for an important stretch of games in front of their hometown fans. The Lobos have played just three home games thus far—most recently on Dec. 11—but they’ll play six of their final nine regular-season games at home over the course of the next three weeks. The Patagonia boys will take a four-game winning streak into Friday’s home game against Baboquivari.

And just like that, the five-and-a-half-hour bus ride to Williams for this week’s holiday tournament shouldn’t seem quite so long and arduous for the Patagonia High School basketball program. Those efforts were recognized with the announcement of the 1A South all-region team.

For nearly the past 50 years, Michele “Chele” Shadrick has experienced the ups, downs and everything in between associated with Patagonia High School basketball. It seems she can’t get enough. After 16 years on the sidelines – cheering on the Lobos as a grandparent and a fan—Shadrick is returning to the bench this year as coach of the Patagonia girls’ basketball team. She previously coached the Lobos from 1999 to 2009, but that’s not even the tip of the iceberg.
