In a brief presentation, City Manager David Mitchell noted that the city established an EDC in 1997 as a tool to assist the city in instances where infrastructure dollars were needed for a project.

    By By Dave Miller | Herald staff writer Last week's announcement that Fort Cavazos would be reverting back to its original name - Fort Hood - was met with some mixed emotions in the local community. No doubt, some residents were glad to see Fort Hood coming back. After all, it had been the post's name for more than 80 years (though it was Camp Hood for the first eight) before the name was changed in 2023.

    By By Dave Miller | Herald staff writer The Harker Heights City Council took on a half-dozen issues involving land use Tuesday, from rezoning several small parcels to approval of a plat for a new 12-acre subdivision. The council also voted to relinquish the city's platting approval for land in its extraterritorial jurisdiction to Bell County in a cost-saving move.

It's over in Nolanville. Incumbent David C. Williams II held off a strong challenge by Patrick Ramsdell to keep his Place 4 seat on the Nolanville City Council. The final tally 139 votes to 128. Good race there.
