Sobrilsky, former AD and Classic 8 commissioner, passes away

Todd Sobrilsky, who was serving as the Classic 8 Conference commissioner and previously an award-winning athletic director in the area, passed away suddenly over the weekend. Sobrilsky was 63. Jeff Sitz, the associate executive director of the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association and former AD at Wisconsin Lutheran, posted the news on X (formerly known as Twitter) Sunday evening.

"Coach McDonnell has been coaching football for 10 years between high school and college," Cedarburg athletic Director Jon Hannam said in a statement. Coach McDonnell’s coaching stops also include Florida, Mississippi and Ohio. Most importantly, coach McDonnell is a player’s first coach who is committed to developing positive relationships with his players, staff, parents and community members.

The position was posted on the Wisconsin Education Career Access Network (WECAN) this week, with the start date for the job listed as July 28. "This was a family decision that he believed to be in the best interest of his family," Tomczyk said.

A new era begins in Oconomowoc soccer this spring. With Michael Beatty stepping down from his post, Haddie Holz assumes head coaching duties for the Raccoons’ girls soccer program. Also a coach with the Elmbrook United club soccer team, Holz was previously an assistant at Lake Country Lutheran, her alma mater. "What excites me most about this opportunity is the chance to share my passion for soccer while building a competitive, culture-driven program," Holz said.

In the brief history of the Oconomowoc/Pewaukee girls lacrosse program, it has managed to churn out some impressive athletes. Head coach Tom Truttschel has 13 returning varsity letter-winners, but will be relying on a few of them in particular to help the co-op take the next step in 2025, including captains Sydney Kadow and Jocelyn Leinen. Kadow, a sophomore, was a first-team all-state defender last season, scoring 11 goals to go with team-high marks in ground balls (45) and caused turnovers (43).
