Whether you collect dust using a shop vacuum, a portable dust collector, or a built-in system, its effectiveness is only as good as how well it connects to the tool and how easy it is to use. Unfortunately, both can prove challenging. Very little standardization of hose and dust port sizes exists, so ports on handheld tools and machines, even those with the same specified diameter, might require adapters or alterations. Other tools can't be easily enclosed to direct dust toward a port.
