Following up his impressive performance in the Totnes-Vire Two-Day race the previous weekend, Mid-Devon CC teenager Henry Cadwallader finished third at the Plymouth Corinthian Spring RR. Cadwallader, who had been the top Junior rider at Totnes-Vire, repeated that effort after forcing his way into the race-winning break at the Corinthian event near Modbury.

Torquay United may still be a solid bet to contest the Play-Offs, but if they want to remain in the National League South title battle, they almost certainly must beat Slough Town at Plainmoor on Saturday (writes Dave Thomas). Paul Wotton’s Gulls, three points behind new leaders Truro in fifth place, have had all week to get over that huge missed chance against Chesham United (1-2) last weekend. With only four games of the regular season to go, they cannot afford any more slip-ups.

I wanted to begin this week’s column by sharing some encouraging feedback we’ve recently received from the Local Government Association. Representatives from the LGA visited the Bay to assess how we, as a council, are performing and to identify areas where we can continue to improve. The LGA conducts what are known as ‘Corporate Peer Challenges’, where councils from across the country invite in ‘peers’ to provide an external perspective on their performance.

With less than a minute covering the top 20 riders after the first two stages in Torbay, the scene was set for a no-quarter-given battle over the final 70-mile road race under cloudless skies at Hatherleigh (writes Dave Thomas).

The Regina Pat Canadians were up against the host, Kenora Thistles, in the second game of the under-18 AAA Western Regionals, and the Queen City kids came away with a 5-0 victory. The Pat Canadians entered the contest 1-0, while the Thistles were 0-1 and needed a win to remain in contention for the final. The Pat Canadians came out flying, directing 20 shots on the Kenora goal in the opening period.
