PATASKALA ― When Licking Heights center Aaron Armour enters the field June 20 for the 42nd Muskingum Valley-Licking County all-star game, it will mean a little extra to him. Not only does he get to take his home turf one last time, but he gets to play again, after being lost midseason with a knee injury against Licking Valley. "Of all the guys excited to play in this game, he's right up there," said Hornets' head coach Austin Drewyor, who is guiding the team along with his staff.

AKRON ― Late Newark Catholic coaching legend John Cannizzaro would have enjoyed the 2025 edition of the Green Wave. It was one that started slowly and played its best at the end. Despite the 8-0 loss to senior-laden Minster in the Division VII state finals on June 14 at Akron's Canal Park, NC took a 12-game winning streak into the game while starting six sophomores. It was its fifth state runnerup trophy, to go with nine championships, and the first appearance in the title contest since 2016.

AKRON ― Evan Lichtenauer had never been extended this far. But Zane Hancock, Brandt Lichtenauer and his Licking Valley teammates made sure it was worth the wait. Hancock's ninth-inning single scored the younger Lichtenauer, after big brother Evan had thrown 129 pitches over 8⅔ innings, giving the Panthers their first-ever state tournament win, a 2-1 thriller against perennial powerhouse Hamilton Badin in a Division III semifinal on June 13 at Akron's Canal Park.

AKRON ― Newark Catholic ace Owen Przymierski was uncharacteristically having trouble locating the strike zone. The Green Wave lost a two-out popup in the sun, allowing two runs to score, and fell behind 3-0. Earlier in the season, it would have been a recipe for disaster for the youthful team, especially in a Division VII state semifinal against top-ranked Tiffin Calvert. Instead, it was just a starting point, and lone seniors Miller Hutchison and Mikey Hess made sure they followed it through.
