Offering interval appendectomy to patients who are recovered after antibiotic treatment of acute uncomplicated appendicitis exposes them to additional risk, disability, and cost in an attempt to avoid a future illness they most likely would never experience with a surgery they most likely would never need. As more patients choose nonoperative treatment, there will be increased opportunity for us to consider interval appendectomy after resolution of appendicitis.
