DETROIT — The MHSAA individual wrestling state tournament at Detroit’s Ford Field proved to be very tough for Mason County Central’s trio of representatives. Only Hunter Sanford was able to reach Saturday’s tournament to earn All-State. He finished in sixth place after being sent to the consolation bracket with a semifinal loss at 120 pounds in Division 3 on Friday. He went 0-2 on Saturday, and he finished his season 42-10. “They wrestled really good. This is a really tough tournament.

DETROIT — Emma Pendell flashed four fingers as her hand was raised as she finished seventh at the MHSAA individual wrestling state tournament Saturday at Detroit’s Ford Field. Pendell achieved All-State for her fourth and final year as a Wildcat, and she was one of three Montague wrestlers to place eighth or better in the two-day tournament. Montague coach Kris Maddox said the Wildcats performed fairly well at what he described as one of the tougher fields in the state tournamenet in a long time.

MARION — Mason County Eastern’s boys basketball season came to a close Friday with a 51-36 loss to Marion in an MHSAA Division 4 district championship game at Marion.
