    A mini tornado has left a trail of destruction in a Cornish village, according to residents. Some properties in Quintrell Downs near Newquay have lost parts of their roofs and trees have been blown down, they said. Eyewitnesses said the winds only lasted for seconds but had caused major damage - one local garage suffered damage to eight cars.

    Spring 2024 has been unusually mild, but also very wet across the south-west of England. While temperatures were above average throughout the UK, February has been a particularly warm month across Devon and Cornwall, with mean temperatures more than 3C above the long-term average. The region had the highest February mean temperature on record and it was the wettest on record. March has also been exceptionally wet.
