The Ministry of Transportation has offered Mattawa a new highway sign to designate the town, but one issue stood out to council – the population number, which is lower than that listed on the current sign. Municipal signage is administered and controlled by the Ministry of Transportation (MOT). Following a census, signs are revised in accordance with the MTO’s rules and regulations, including updating the signs to reflect populations.

The festival showcases visual artists, videographers, dancers and musicians, and the public is welcome to attend. Grade 12 student, Myles Denomme, eager for the showcase, noted, “Live performances are more important now than ever before. I am excited to perform with my friends after all the time we have spent practicing together.

West Ferris Secondary School students raised $51,000 in this year’s Parade for Cancer fundraiser. It was a beautiful day for the annual Trojans Parade for Cancer. Hundreds of students left the school just after 10 a.m. and marched along the Kate Pace Way to the Kiwanis Bandshell at the North Bay Waterfront. Mark Robertson, a teacher at West Ferris who helps organize the event, said, “I’m absolutely ecstatic about this year’s total.

Juno-nominated singer-songwriter Dave Gunning is coming to North Bay today. East Coaster Studios is producing the show in conjunction with the Near North District School Board and Chippewa Music. The concert will raise funds to support the music program at Chippewa Secondary School and make upgrades to the school’s theatre sound system. Jamie Carruthers launched the East Coast concert series in October 2024. Since then, he has brought a variety of acts to North Bay.

Les Couchi’s new book, Our Warrior Spirit, presents a history of Nipissing First Nation, from the early days to the present. He covers a lot of territory within the pages, as the community “has seen an enormous change in my lifetime.”The book, which is lavishly illustrated with photographs and maps, contains four main parts, with each discussing different eras of the community’s history. Much of Our Warrior Spirit draws on Couchi’s own experiences.
