Audrey Barron has played basketball her entire life. Nearly from the moment she could walk, she was dribbling a basketball. So sitting out last season with a knee injury was a special kind of torture for the Shawe Memorial High School junior. But rather than feel sorry for herself, Barron used the opportunity to become a better student of the game and, in the process, become a more well-rounded player.

The girls basketball teams from Shawe, Madison and Southwestern combined to win 50 games in the 2024-25 season so it should come as no surprise that the three schools dominate this year's Madison Courier Postseason Awards. The three teams make up seven of the 10 First- and Second-Team selections and all three of the postseason awards. Carroll County, Switzerland County and Trimble County each have one selection.

"Coming up all the way through, I was getting better and better. I actually wasn't really a physical kid. I was standoffish and everything else," Waggoner said. "And then just being in wrestling made me a better, outgoing person. I'm glad that the coaches that I've had, and even my mother, put that in me, because it translated over onto the mat and over onto the football field."Waggoner had an outstanding senior season for the Cubs, going 31-13 and placing fourth in the sectional at 190 pounds.
