The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a number of warnings for the Illawarra, for Monday 31 March 2025. The region has a Gale Warning for Monday and Tuesday, while Hazardous Surf Warning as well. The Bureau advises very heavy surf is expected, which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is possible, the conditions may further continue into Tuesday.

Wollongong City Council will soon go to tender for an Intelligent Defect Management supplier following a successful trial of technology which monitors the condition of the road network via cameras installed on household waste collection trucks. Council manages more than 1,000 kilometres of roads across the Local Government Area and has investigated more efficient ways to regularly monitor the condition of these roads.

The arrival of a tower crane at the site of the site of the new Shellharbour Hospital has marked a major milestone in the delivery of the state-of-the-art facility. Standing at over 52 metres tall, the crane will play a crucial role supporting construction of the new seven-storey hospital. It is the first of two cranes which will be in place until next year, with the second crane set to be installed in the coming months.

Kiama Council, in partnership with the Kiama Business Network, is hosting a Local Housing Strategy information session breakfast, on Friday 11 April, 7.30am. The information session is part of Council’s extensive consultation on the draft Local Housing Strategy, which is on public exhibition until 27 April. Mayor Cameron McDonald has encouraged the community and other stakeholders to register for the free information session and breakfast, which is being held at The Sebel.

The federal budget was handed down last night by treasurer Jim Chalmers. Business Illawarra a few reasons to smile, there’s a few frowns in there as well. Director Coralie McCarthy, said the paper delivers some measures for businesses in the Illawarra, but falls short on critical infrastructure investment needed for long-term economic growth and job creation.
